If you have a small bedroom, you are not alone it is one of the most common bedroom decorating issues. It would mean remodelling to add actual square footage, but don’t hesitate there are tips and tricks you can incorporate into your home which can fool the eye into seeing your bedroom as larger than it actually is.
Utilise Your Bed
The largest item in any bedroom is going to be your bed without a doubt, opting for a bed with storage underneath will give you more room than expected. Choosing a bed base with built in drawers is one way to do this, or if your fancying something a little different look for an ottoman bed this uses hydraulics to allow you to lift the mattress for easy access to the storage beneath.
If you prefer more of a bed frame to a bed base then use the space underneath your bed for storage by implementing pretty wicker storage baskets to keep things organised while still looking pretty, alternatively for a more character look you could store your belongings in chic vintage suitcases.
Hang Mirrors
Every bedroom needs at least one full length mirror, so you can look at your outfit from head to toe, but the small bedroom can use more. Mirrors are one of the simplest ways in creating the illusion of a bigger space and there are so many ways to incorporate them into your bedroom décor;
- Mirrored or chrome finished lamps, furniture and décor
- Small, fancy – framed mirrors grouped on the wall
- Starburst mirror over the bed
- Ornate mirror over the dresser
- Mirrored wardrobe doors
Fitted Furniture
When space is limited, you need to ensure every inch is put to good use. Fitted pieces are the best bet, not only does this allow you to free up the floor space in other areas of the room but the clean and bold lines can help them essentially disappear.
Keep Furniture in Scale
A small room doesn’t have to mean tiny furniture, but it does mean you will need to find pieces that match in scale and are sized appropriately to fit in your space. For example, you can’t place a king size bed with two tiny night stands. Instead choose a bed which allows you to fit at least one nightstand large enough to hold its own next to a larger bed. When it comes to the furniture in your room keep the clutter to a minimum and select pieces of furniture which offer as much furniture as possible.
Choose a Single Art Piece
By hanging one large statement piece of artwork, primarily above the bed, this then provides a single focus point to draw in the eye multiple pieces can cause the eye to dart around the room. You could even think outside the box and hang a large map of your favourite area, blowing up an image of your favourite snap can be a great way to get something original yet personal.
